We don't really know what to call it, but we officiate many legal marriages. There are many reasons to have a legal marriage or elope, surpassing the "living together" stage. Usually, there is an issue such as insurance or immigration or adoption or bureaucratic red tape and the marriage is more of a formality. Plus, think of this: if your loved one were to unexpectedly die before your marriage were finalized, what legal rights would they have when you leave them. Also, as a married couple you have the right to enter an emergency room after an accident.
If you have a planned wedding further out that you want to commit your heart to and it makes sense for you financially or for peace of mind to have a private wedding ceremony before the "real" event, we can do that for you in a casual atmosphere.
And the beauty of it is that nobody needs to know without your permission. By nature of the confidential marraige license that we can provide you, nobody is allowed to know without a court order. You don't even need witnesses at the wedding. Not even your own mother needs to know! So it could be just the two of you and your officiant. It's that easy.
