The Supreme Court of the United States declared on June 26, 2013 that the parties challenging the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals finding that Prop 8 was unconstitutional did not have standing to challenge the 9th Circuit Court’s decision. Proposition 8 was intended to ban LGBT or same sex marriages. As a result, the Ninth Circuit’s decision that Prop 8 has no legal effect will stand.
As of June 28, 2013 when the Ninth Circuit Court lifted the stay on their decision and Governor Brown asked that the counties let gay marriages begin as soon as possible, same-sex weddings were considered legal and available for gay couples.
